Grape Variety :
Site: one of the northernmost Crus of Beaujolais. The vineyard is on a steep slope.
History & tradition: this was the first vineyard to be planted in Antiquity, while the rest of the region was still covered with chestnut trees. It may get its name form Jules Caesar himself.
Soil: mixture of granite and manganese.
Density: 9 000 vines/ha, to check the strength of the varietal.
Pruning: Gobelet method (Goblet pruning), very short, to control yield.
Harvesting: by hand.
Method: traditional for Beaujolais; semi-carbonic maceration, full bunches of grapes.
Maceration: 4 to 10 days.
Ageing: stainless steel vat.

"Finesse and depth characterize this wine. Beautiful red colour with raspberry hues. The bouquet is particularly elegant, with notes of wild berries. In the mouth, the wine is fleshy, with a good structure. Long and aromatic sensation in the aftertaste".
The wines are good and homogenous all over the Beaujolais region. The colour is frank and fairly dark and there is a nice fruity spontaneity on the nose, as on the palate. This year we can say that the aromas have a tendency towards red, rather than dark fruits.
Temperature: 13°C (55°F).
Cellaring: 2 to 4 years.
