153rd Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction
26.11.2013The 153rd Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction took place on the 17th of November under the presidency of Clotilde Courau, Princess of Savoie.
443 barrels were put up for sale, of which 110 white wines and 333 barrels of red wine. It is a large drop compared to last year and it reflects the limited quantity of the 2013 harvest.
The final result of the sale totalled 5.8 €, reflecting an increase of 27%.
We thought to have reached a peak last year at 5.3 €. This was surpassed this year. The increase totalled 28% for the red wines and 22% for the white wines.
We noticed a significant presence of Asian buyers, in particular from China, proving their desire to discover and secure volumes of Burgundy wines. The traditional Burgundy negociants bought less than usual, not wanting to outbid the high prices.
The charity barrel was sold for € 131 000, which is less than last year; the sum benefiting 2 different charities. It is worth noting that the buyer was from China.
We have always demonstrated our commitment to the Hospices de Beaune, and we acquired the following barrels:
- 8 barrels of Beaune 1er cru cuvee Maurice Drouhin
- 4 barrels of Volnay Santenots Premier Cru cuvée Gauvain
- 1 barrel of Meursault Genevrières Premier Cru cuvée Baudot
